national data policy
Guided by board member Bonnie Carroll, IIA Tech is at the forefront of US data policy. Bonnie serves on the US National Academy of Sciences Board of Research Data and Information and is the Secretary General of CODATA (Committee on Data) under the International Science Council. She staffed two US White House Interagency Working Groups in Informatics and Digital Data. She is currently working on a NIST grant to scope out a new standard Research Data Framework. IIA Tech data policy experts pay particular attention to data confidentiality (e.g., PII and HPII), data rights, and data security.

Modern data science is in its infancy and is still largely practiced as a craft. IIA Tech has developed a novel, all-encompassing solution to address the many competing requirements, design principles, and challenges of enterprise-wide data analytics. Our Agile Governance and Data Science Pods solution focuses not simply on the need to solve local data analytics problems, but on establishing a new, data savvy enterprise culture. mission and operations analytics
IIA Tech data scientists and engineers envision, develop, and deploy mission critical analytics using artificial intelligence, operations research, and decision science. We integrate machine learning, modeling and simulation, digital twins, and decision models for greater mission effectiveness. We conduct geospatial deep learning of multi-spectral imagery to feed into behavioral analysis models. We support automated target recognition and predictive analytics based on near real-time data stream analysis. We are using machine learning, topic modeling, and natural language processing to automatically assign science and technology subject categories to massive data collections, and we are adapting LTSM recurrent networks, word embeddings, and semantic analysis to assist government image analysts. Our latest challenge is refactoring and accelerating convolutional neural networks (CNNs) onto field programmable gate array (FPGA) boards on orbit.
For over 30 years, IIA Tech has provided analytical support to the Department of Energy and its National Laboratories. From spreadsheets to high performance computing, IIA Tech’s energy analytics have grown with our customers. Today, we are using advanced machine learning for process simulation and optimization of advanced energy systems. We redesign energy plants through superstructure optimization based on thermodynamic and computational fluid dynamics modeling. We maximize carbon capture by creatively applying gradient-based optimization methods and nonlinear programming (NLP) solvers.

Managers can then easily review multiple transactions and assess whether purchases are abusive. The new capability increased oversight timeliness and reduced questionable spending.

We specialize in identifying potential cost overruns or underspends early when they can be more easily remedied. IIA Tech proudly partnered with vCalc on the development of the EVM Calculator: an easy-to-use, free online tool that provides all the formulas for EVM, PERT and Schedule Float.

IIA Tech employs a disciplined CPIC process to support agency compliance with ITMRA and OMB Circular A-130 requirements for acquiring, using, maintaining, and disposing of information technology. This process includes capital programming, planning, budgeting, and procurement. We align our activities with the agency’s enterprise architecture planning processes. Rather than being wed to a particular product, IIA Tech project and portfolio analysts have a breadth of knowledge of project management tools that government agencies already use—including Microsoft Project, SharePoint, eCPIC, and Primavera.
