Carroll Elected to Executive Committee of International CODATA

Bonnie C. Carroll, Founder and Chairman of the Board of International Information Associates (IIa), was elected to the Executive Committee of the International Council for Science (ICSU) Committee on Data (CODATA) at the organization’s 23rd International General Assembly in Taipei in October. Carroll joins a distinguished international group led by President Guo Huadong of China and Secretary General Dr. Sara Graves of the University of Alabama, Huntsville.  CODATA officers and members of the Executive Committee represent Canada, China, India, Israel, Japan, Russia, South Africa, and the United Kingdom. As a member of the CODATA Executive Committee, Ms. Carroll will participate in strategic and operational planning for cooperation in data science at the international level. 

With a mission to improve the quality, reliability, management and accessibility of data important to all fields of science and technology, CODATA provides scientists and engineers with access to international data activities for increased awareness, direct cooperation, and new knowledge. CODATA is concerned with all types of data resulting from experimental measurements, observations and calculations in the physical sciences, biology, geology, astronomy, engineering, environmental science, ecology and other fields of science and technology. Particular emphasis is given to data management problems common to different disciplines and to data used outside the field in which they were generated.

Ms. Carroll has been associated with CODATA as a conference organizer, Member of the National Academy of Sciences, US National Committee for CODATA, and most recently as the US National Representative to the group. For the past two years she has been a co-chair of an international task group on Digital Data Citation.
